The Piece Keepers

The History of The Piece Keepers

T28
The Piece Keepers were founded for T28. There was only one team back then, known as The Knights Who Say Check, competing in the U1800 section. The team consisted of: Boromir, chsrules88, Zarek mickeys and pokerram, and placed 3rd in the division

T29
For T29 we had two new team members. JohnnySP and Martineden replaced chsrules88 and mickeys. Again it was The Knight Who Say Check and this time we fared much better. We just managed to scrape into the playoffs and after an intense semi-final, which we only won on tie-break, we made it to the final.Unfortunately we had to take 2.5-1.5 loss to team Cannon after an extremely exciting final. After the initial disappointment we were all very happy that we got as far as we did.

It was also during this time that our ethos of friendliness, teamspirit and, first and foremost, fun, was slowly developed, as we discovered that we played our best when we supported each other, and just enjoyed playing chess in a great atmosphere.

T30
T30 was expansion time for the now renamed team. The original team remained as the U1800 team, with Zarek being replaced by a returning mickeys, but some of the higher rated team members wanted to join an U2000 team. The solution was obvious: Expansion. A new team was formed by Boromir, JohnnySP and Martineden, with the inclusion of two new team members, Guasto and Jayes. Another team member wanted to join an U1600, so again there was only one solution and thus the U1600 team was formed as well. Pokerram was the original member, and in addition we had four new faces, Zzasrix, Pawndemonium, LIVVI and Relapse, with Boromir acting as non-playing captain.

T30 has now ended. The U2000 and U1600 teams unfortunately didn't make the playoffs (the U2000 team finished last in their division while the U1600 team finished 3rd) but the U1800 finished in a flurry, winning their last two matches and taking the division title. Unfortunately they went out in the first round of the playoffs after a very close match with The Dragons U1800 which featured no less that 3 drawn games and just one decided game.

We have once again had to say farewell to some team members after T30. Guasto left the U2000 team and Relapse left the U1600 team, while Martineden had to leave the U1800 team because of the rating limit (however he will continue playing for the U2000 team)

T31
Some new faces for T31. Phosphorus joined the U2000 team, MrShaw joined the U1800 team and Bookkeeper joined the U1600 team. Hopefully these players will perform well for us for many tournaments to come.

T31 was both up and down for the team. Both the U1800 and U2000 missed the playoffs by tiny margins (the U1800 was ½ a gamepoint away from taking first place!!!) but the U1600 team won their division in fine style. Unfortunately they did so only to crash out in the first round of the playoffs to a team they had already beaten twice in the regular season, but a very good effort from the U1600 guys nonetheless.

T32
Again some new faces for t32 Thedude joined the U2000 team and JeCrainsDegun joined the U1800 team midtourney when mickeys had to pull out (though we expect him to be back in top form for t33).
The U1600 team was the hardest hit on the personell front, replacing Zzasrix and LIVVI with Lionskins and Nanning
T32 generally went well. The U2000 team made the playoffs for the first time, winning their division comfortably. However they crashed out in the first round.

The U1600 team had the best performance of all. In spite of losing 5(!) games by forfeit they still made it to the playoffs, not least thanks to a monster 8-0 performance from assistant captain pokerram. Lionskins and nanning also had good performances to clinch the playoff spot. The quarter final was won quite easily, however just as everything was looking good (1½-½ up after 2 games) they lost the last 2 games and the match. A great pity.
The U1800 team had a mediocre performance, though they did have playoff-chanced right up to the last round.

T33
Again several facechanges. The u1800 team fell heavy over the rating limit after t32 and so mickeys and JohnnySP had to leave the team. Duguesclin was brought in to cover the 5th spot. The U2000 team saw Phosphorus leave and Pawnster coming in as the new board 1. The u1600 team had a lot of changes during t32, but the lineup that was set at the end of t32 proved to be good for t33.

Unfortunately T33 ended on a low note. Things were looking very good at the midpoint, but from thereon it all went downhill and for the first time, not a single team made it to the playoffs. There were several good efforts though, and it really was more a question of bad luck than bad play.

T37
Only one team was entered in T37. We got of to a flying start, winning round 1 and 2, but then lost some clutch games in the next rounds, and all playoff chances were gone by the end of round 5.
